BFA 1985 Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas MFA 1988 Texas Woman's University, Denton, Texas By day, I work as a letter carrier for the USPS. By night, I relieve the inevitable job-related stress by painting and writing. I incorporate humor in my work because laughter really is the best medicine, and in my line of work a healthy dose is a necessity.
After obtaining my MFA degree in 1988, I essentially abandoned what had been a lifetime desire to be a working artist. I returned to painting in 2012 after a health scare that left me unable to work for several months. I began by painting "tributes" to friends, some I have lost touch with, some who have passed away. My current body of work incorporates humor, both in the images and in the titles, which is in itself a tribute to my father, who was the funniest person I ever knew. Visually, my art is influenced heavily by Mexican Folk artists, who make use of bold color and a naive style.
